The following is the criteria for admission to RVC or any Kentucky Veterans Homes, as specified in 17 KAR 3:040:
Must be a Veteran defined as someone who has​ served in the active military, naval or air service. 
Must have a military discharge that is not of a dishonorable nature
Must be a Kentucky resident as of the date of admission to a Kentucky Veterans Home
Must be disabled by reason of disease, wounds, age, or otherwise in need of nursing care

A Veteran shall not be eligible for admission if the person:
Has been diagnosed by a qualified healthcare professional as acutely mentally ill, as an acute alcoholic, as addicted to drugs, as continuously disruptive, or as dangerous to self or others;
Is ventilator dependent; or
Has needs that cannot be met by the Veterans Homes. ​

By definition of skilled nursing care, a Veteran must need nursing care on a 24/7 basis. This can include assistance with daily living skills such as assistance with dressing, bathing, transferring, eating or medication management.  ​



Frequently Asked Questions:​

Q: Do I have to be a disabled Veteran, as determined by the VA with a disability award percentage, to be eligible?
A: No, a disability award percentage is not necessary for eligibility. 

Q. Do you accept spouses of Veterans?
A: Kentucky Veterans Homes do not accept spouses of Veterans. 

Q: What is the monthly cost?
A: All of our rooms are considered suites with private bedroom and private bath. The monthly cost is $5,000 and includes meals, snacks, activities, housekeeping and laundry services, and other amenities. (the costs of medications and medical treatments are extra unless covered by a qualified insurance). If a Veteran has a 70% or more service-connected disability rating, the VA will cover all costs at a Kentucky Veterans Home. KY Medicaid is also accepted for those Veterans who meet the Medicaid income guidelines. 

Q. Is there a preadmission process to be completed?
