Expenditures in Kentucky by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs continue to increase even though Kentucky's veteran population is decreasing.

Between 1998 and 2006, the number of veterans in Kentucky dropped from 380,000 to 355,000, while the USDVA expenditures increased from $625 million to $1.1 billion.

Compensation and Pension payments to Kentucky veterans have increased substantially, rising from $437 million in 2002 to $825 million in 2009.
