More than 100 people turned out for the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Maj. Gen. James M. MacDonald, Commander of the Cadet Command at Fort Knox, was the keynote speaker. Donna Betson lead the volunteers collecting donations for wreaths.

About 100 people attended the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County on Saturday, May 10.
About 60 people attended the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North iN Williamstown on a cold but sunny Saturday, Dec. 10. The volunteers placed wreaths on all 319 headstones at the cemetery.
EKVC's Veterans Day Ceremony too place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in the Multi-Purpose Room. The guest speaker was Sergeant William S. Napier. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958 in the 11th Airborne Division stationed in Munich Germany. There was also be a special performance from RG Eversole Middle School and posting of the colors by Perry Central High School and Buckhorn High School. A special presentation to all Veterans in attendance was followed by refreshments.
THVC honored its veterans beginning 11:11 a.m. on November 11. The Tabernacle Baptist Church presented a special program featuring Shawn Smith, Lee Watts, (KY State Government Chaplain, US Air Force, Iraq War Veteran) R. J. Morelli Assistant Pastor, Tabernacle Baptist Church Choir led by Tim Morrison and Dr. Evertie Moore, (Former Missionary, US Army, Korean War Veteran).
On Saturday, Nov. 12, resident veterans rode in the the Wilmore Veterans Day Parade, which began at 10 am and concluded at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center for a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11:11.
The Featured Guest was Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Barbara Bolt, Assistant Administrator at THVC. LTC Bolt served in the Army as a nurse for 20 years and had many assignments from community hospitals to Medical Centers. She retired from Fort Belvoir, Virginia and received the legion of Merit Medal.
The Veterans Day ceremony at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central began at 11 a.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. MG (Ret) William E. Barron, Army, was the keynote speaker. He is past commander of the 100th Training division, having risen from an enlisted private in a 38-year career. The American Legion Post 113 from Elizabethtown sponsored the event and participated with their honor guard and auxiliary.
Veterans from the Eddie Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center participated in the Madisonville Veterans Day Parade - the largest in Kentucky.
KVCW's Veterans Day ceremony began at 10 a.m. Central time on Friday, Nov. 11 in Hopkinsville. It was sponsored by American Legion Post 233 and Ladies' Auxiliary. Fort Campbell High School Jr. ROTC posted the colors. Guest Speaker was Brigadier General Leslie E. Beavers (USA Ret.), former Commissioner of KDVA. Free luncheon followed provided by American Legion Post 233 Auxiliary at the Post on South 41-A.
KVCN's Veterans Day ceremony too place at 11 a.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 11. Grant County High School Junior ROTC Color Guard posted the colors. Guest Speaker was LTC (USAR) James G. Simpson. Howard Chipman, veteran of two tours in Vietnam, gave the Invocation and Benediction. Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored the wreath-laying ceremony, and Williamstown Women's Clubs provided refreshments.
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County held its first Veterans Day Ceremony since opening in October 2010.
Paul Blazer H.S. JROTC posted colors and placed memorial wreaths. Guest speakers were Rep. Tanya Pullin and Senator Walter Blevins. Rev. Phillip Stevens gave the Invocation and Benediction. Paul Blazer H.S. Quartet provided music.
Commerce Lexington's Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair was a success, with almost 300 veterans gathering job information from more than 50 employers. The Kentucky Veterans Program Trust Fund granted $12,500 to Commerce Lexington to organize the job fair.
Thanks to a $30,000 grant from the Kentucky Veterans Program Trust Fund, veterans with PTSD, TBI or other service-related disabilities can receive therapeutic riding at Wild Rose Therapeutic in Elizabethtown, KY.
On September 27, 2011, Kentucky Secretary of State Elaine Walker present to KDVA Commissioner Ken Lucas a book of signatures from 2,000 people who had agreed to Vote in Honor of a Veteran on Election Day November 8.
She made the presentation in front of more than 40 veterans at the Homeless Veterans Treament and Transition Program at the Lexington VAMC's Leestown campus.
Walker urged the veterans to register and to vote, and to pick a Vote in Honor of a Veteran button. "I'd like you to hand that button to someone who doesn't vote, and tell them that veterans fought and sacrificed to protect the right to vote, and you want them to vote in honor of your service.
"Go ahead, lay a guilt trip on them," she said to laughter and applause. Each of the veterans signed the Vote in Honor of a Veteran book, naming the veterans each wants to vote in honor of.
On Sunday, September 11, 2011, Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central dedicated its memorial to 9-11, on the 10th anniversary of that event. The memorial features a large steel beam from one of the fallen World Trade Center Towers.
The entire memorial, including the transport of the beam from New York, was donated by volunteers in the area. Radcliff native Samuel Young works in D.C. for the Terrorist Screening Center, which is in charge of these artifacts. He was able to obtain the piece and received permission to have it brought here. KDVA approved the donation and a host of private contributors have funded getting it here and erected. Mercer Trucking from L-ville retrieved the beam and brought it here at no cost. Koetter Construction built the pad at no cost. Boomers Crane Service erected it at no cost. Peter Zanetti, an engineer, designed it at no cost.
As KVCC Director Chuck Heater put it: "Just a slew of people who thought this is the right thing to do, how can I help, and by the way, it won’t cost you a thing. Makes you proud to be an American."
