WKVC Renamed for Rep. Eddie Ballard

Governor Beshear Signs Bill Renaming WKVC
From left, Rep. Ballard's son Pat and wife Rae Ballard, Julie Fireline, Rep. Jody Richards, Rep. Brent Yonts, Governor Beshear, Rep. Jim Gooch, Rep. Ballard, Senator Richard Roeding and Franklin Livingston, who presented Rep. Ballard with a framed photo in appreciation of his work for veterans.
Governor Steve Beshear Tuesday ceremonially signed House Joint Resolution 34 renaming the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in honor of Rep. Eddie Ballard, of Madisonville.
In signing HJR 34, Gov. Beshear acknowledged Rep. Ballard as one of the most vocal advocates for veterans in Kentucky. Since the establishment of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs in 1998, Rep. Ballard has used his position as chairman of the House Veterans subcommittee to fight for many veteran causes, including construction of the much-needed western Kentucky facility in 2002. A veteran of the Army himself, Rep. Ballard has also championed the expansion of the 120-bed care center, obligating the state to commit to match federal funds for a specialty care unit.
“Given his efforts, I believe it’s appropriate that we honor Rep. Ballard by adding his name to this facility,” said Gov. Beshear. “By signing House Joint Resolution 34, I will formally change the name of this facility to the Joseph ‘Eddie’ Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center,” said the Governor.
