Memorial Day events will be held all over Kentucky this year.  Here is a partial list of events:

KDVA Events

KDVA will observe Memorial Day at all three of its State Veterans Cemeteries and all three of its Veterans Centers.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North

1 p.m., Monday, May 31.  Guest Speaker will be CSM Monty Lash, incoming 7th BDE Command Sergeant Major, Fort Knox.  Colors posted and retired by the Grant County Veterans Honor Guard.  Music by the Williamstown Choir. Wreaths laid by family members of deceased veterans.  Refreshments by Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 24, Georgetown.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West

11 a.m. (Central), Monday May 31. The ceremony is sponsored by VFW Post 1913, John Brame, Commander.  The Guest Speaker will by Dr. Dennis Swain a Vietnam War Air Force veteran.  We would also like to make a special thank you to The Fort Campbell American Legion Auxiliary Unit 233 for donation of all flags for the flag plaza, and the VFW Post 1913 for replacing the US Flag.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central

2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 31. The ceremony is sponsored by VFW Post 10281 from Vine Grove.  The Guest Speaker will be Colonel Jarrold Reeves, Deputy Cmdr. 3d Sustainment Cmd. Ft. Knox. The First Battalion, 26th Infrantry will be the honor guard.  Upcoming Ms Kentucky hopeful Jessica Caruso will sing the National Anthem.  VFW Post 10281 will dedicate a memorial stone for our scattering garden and place a memorial wreath.

Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore

THVC's Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 31. The guest speaker will be Wayne Sparks.  There will be a Final Roll Call for our Thomson-Hood Veterans who have passed away since  May 2009.

Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center, Hazard

EKVC's Memorial Day Wreath Dedication will be held  at the Paul E. Patton Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center at 2:00 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 31st.  Johnny Couch, President of the Hazard VFW, will be the guest speaker.  The Memorial Wreath will be placed by one of EKVC's residents, a WWII Veteran who is 96 years old. 

Western Kentucky Veterans Center, Hanson

WKVC’s Memorial Day Program will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 21.  Hopkins County Central High School Junior ROTC Air Force Cadets will perform the service, including posting of the colors by an Honor Guard, Pledge of Allegiance and reading poems written by the Cadets.  There will be a slide show of the residents of WKVC who have passed since Memorial Day 2009 and the hanging of a wreath, concluding with TAPS and TAPS Echo.

Bellevue

May 31  Bellevue-Dayton Memorial Day Parade - 81st Anniversary. Begins 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Monument in Dayton and ends at the Bellevue Veterans Club.  Guest Speaker will be KDVA Commissioner Ken Lucas, former Fourth District Congressman. Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville

The Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 11 .m. Monday, May 31. The guest speaker will be Robert McWhorter, Commander, Walton, KY National Guard Unit.  The ceremony will feature special singing by Doug Diggles, Diggles Family Ministries, Lexington, as well as Caisson Honors Review and Civil War Cannon Fire

Frankfort, May 14-16

All Veterans Reunion, Capitol Plaza Tower.  Welcome booth and vendors open noon on Friday, May 14.  Opening ceremony on the upper level at noon on Saturday, May 15.

Bowling Green, May 31

Memorial Day Ceremony, 10 a.m. at American Legion Post 23 on Dishman Lane.  Special Forces veteran Dave Boyehey will be the guest speaker.  Open to the public.  Lunch will be served.

Lexington, May 31

Lexington’s official Memorial Day Observance ceremony will be held at The Lexington National Cemetery, located just inside the front gates of The Lexington Cemetery. The service, which begins at 11 a.m. on MON 31 MAY 2010, will feature remarks by Bob Kovacic LTC USA (Ret), presentation of The Colors, playing of “Taps,” and 3-volley salute. Participating will be the men and women of American Legion Man O’ War Post No. 8 and its Ladies Auxiliary. The public is invited to join The Lexington Cemetery in remembering and saluting those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

ANNUAL MEMORIAL AND ENSHRINEMENT CEREMONY
Memorial Day, Monday, Noon, May 31, 2010.

Each year on Memorial Day at noon, a memorial and enshrinement ceremony is held at the Patriots Peace Memorial. Glass bricks bearing the names of "patriots" who have fallen during the past year are presented by family members for installation within the memorial's walls. All our military dead are remembered in a moving and respectful ceremony attended by veterans, family members and the general public.

The memorial is located just east of downtown Lousville next to Thurman-Hutchins Park on River Road east of Zorn Avenue.

Cave Hill Cemetery, 701 Baxter Ave, 11 a.m. Monday.

Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, 4701 Brownsboro Road, 2 p.m. Monday.

Louisville, May 31

Memorial Day Service at Portland Cemetery, 35th Street, between Pflanz Avenue and Bank Street, 10 a.m. Monday. Flags will be placed at the graves of veterans in the cemetery. Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars Shawnee Post 3204 Ladies Auxiliary.
