Wreaths Across America

Service Member salutes after placing wreath on headstoneHundreds of volunteers placed more than 1,300 wreaths at Kentucky's three veterans cemeteries on Dec. 12 as part of the national Wreaths Across America ceremony. In Williamstown, volunteers collected donations to purchase almost 100 wreaths, and volunteers braved freezing temperatures in bright sunshine to place them on headstones.

Description

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North is located on 99 acres off I-75 at mile marker one hundred fifty-four (154) in Williamstown. Phase One construction includes a 3,600-square-foot administration building, a 4,400-square-foot maintenance building with service area, committal facility and a columbarium. It also has appropriate parking, road network, walking path and landscaping commensurate with the dignity and honor of a state veterans cemetery.

Construction and initial equipment for KVCN cost $8.2 million. The Grant County Industrial Authority donated the land. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reimbursed the state for construction, and the state pays the operating costs.
